Introduction

Sketchfab is the world's largest 3D model library. Appley integrates directly with Sketchfab, letting you search, preview, and import assets without leaving the editor.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Open the Asset Browser

Click the Asset Browser tab at the bottom of Creator Studio.

2

Select Sketchfab source

In the search bar, click the source dropdown and select "Sketchfab". You can also choose "All Sources" to search everywhere.

3

Search for assets

Type a keyword like "medieval house" or "sports car". Results appear instantly with thumbnails and previews.

4

Preview a model

Click any result to see a 3D preview, polygon count, file format, and license information.

5

Check the license

Verify the license allows your intended use. Look for CC-BY (attribution required) or CC0 (public domain) for published games.

6

Import the asset

Click "Import" on the preview. The asset downloads, processes, and appears in your project library ready to use.

FluxScript Example

Here is the FluxScript (Appley Scripting) code for this tutorial:

Using Sketchfab Assets — FluxScript
// Search and import from Sketchfab
on start {
  // Search Sketchfab for medieval buildings
  results = assets.search("medieval house", {
    source: "sketchfab",
    category: "buildings",
    max: 10,
    sort: "relevance"
  })

  print("Found " + results.length + " results")

  // Import the first result
  if results.length > 0 {
    best = results[0]
    print("Importing: " + best.title + " by " + best.author)

    house = assets.import(best.id)
    house.setPosition(0, 0, 0)
    house.setScale(1, 1, 1)
  }
}

Node Script Equivalent

Prefer visual programming? Here is the same logic as a Node Script graph:

Using Sketchfab Assets — Node Graph
[On Start] ──► [Search: "medieval house", Sketchfab]
         ──► [Print: result count]
         ──► [Branch: results > 0]
              ├─ True ──► [Get: results[0]]
                        ──► [Print: title + author]
                        ──► [Import: best.id]
                        ──► [Set Position: (0,0,0)]
                        ──► [Set Scale: (1,1,1)]
              └─ False ──► (skip)

Pro Tip

Always check the license before using Sketchfab assets in published games. CC-BY requires crediting the author. CC0 has no restrictions.

Watch Out

Some Sketchfab models are very high-poly (100k+ polygons). Check the polygon count in the preview before importing — high-poly assets can destroy mobile performance.
